Instagram reel not downloading? Every cause and its fix

First, check the reel itself: open the same link in Instagram. If it does not open there either, no downloader can fetch it. If it does, read on. For the download itself, see the Instagram Reel Downloader.

What the error message means

Instead of a bare "error", the bot tells you why a reel failed:

The account is private

Reels on a private account are visible only to its approved followers. The downloader sees only what anyone can see without logging in, so a private reel will not download. No other site or bot can do it without a follower's account either - if one promises to and asks for your password, keep your password.

The reel was deleted or archived

Once its owner deletes or archives a reel, Instagram stops showing it to anyone. The link is still the same link, but nothing is behind it. If you already saved a copy from the bot, that copy is still in your chat: Telegram files do not depend on the original post.

Restricted reels (age, sensitive or regional)

Instagram shows some posts only to someone who is logged in: posts with an age restriction, posts marked sensitive, and posts blocked in some countries. This is decided per post, so the next reel from the same account will most likely download fine. For these posts there is no route that does not need your account.

The link was not sent right

The most common cause, and the easiest to fix:

• Send the link on its own. If there is a word before it - "look at this https://…" - the bot reads the whole message as the name of a song and searches for it. The link has to come first.
• Copy the link from Instagram. Under the reel, tap the paper plane and choose Copy link. A good link starts with instagram.com/reel/ or instagram.com/p/.
• Story and profile links do not work on the website. The site answers that this needs the Telegram bot. Send the same link to the bot instead - see stories and highlights by username.

Instagram is limiting the server

Now and then Instagram stops answering requests from one server for a while. It has nothing to do with your reel or your account, and it usually passes within minutes. If the bot asks you to wait about an hour, the limit is a longer one, and other reels will likely fail in the meantime too.

You reached a limit

To keep the server fast for everyone, each person gets one download at a time, and there are caps on requests per minute and files per hour. When you hit one, the bot tells you exactly how long to wait. On the website, "You already have a download running" and "Too many requests from you" mean the same thing.

The website's link expired

On the website a prepared file is kept for 30 minutes. If you left the page open and pressed download after that, you will see "That download link has expired". Paste the reel link again and press Get.

Still not downloading?

Try a different reel from a big public account. If that one works, the problem is the first reel - one of the cases above. If no reel downloads at all, the problem is temporary and on our side, and it is usually fixed soon. If the website said it was busy or had reached its hourly limit, that limit belongs to the website only; the Telegram bot is not affected by it.
